Abel Jackson’s boyhood belongs to a vanishing world. Living with his mother in Longboat Bay, Abel makes friends in the sea, particularly with a magnificent old groper he names Blueback. As the years pass and things change, one thing seems to remain constant: the greed of humans. When the modern world comes to his patch of sea, Abel wonders what can stand in its way.
